Foundations of Hatha Yoga

If you are person who has never tried yoga classes for fear of injury, because "I can't touch my toes" or because you are intimidated to attend a class "full of athletes", one-to-one sessions can be arranged to introduce you to a hatha yoga practice designed specifically to your needs.  One-to-one sessions can help build confidence to attend studio-based yoga classes.

Trauma Sensitive Hatha Yoga

Recovery and the development of resiliency for those who have experienced traumatic stress can be aided by a yoga practice delivered in a safe and supportive environment by an instructor well versed in the somatic effects of traumatic stress.  Trauma sensitive yoga provides a safe context for exploring basic body awareness, learning to self regulate emotions and developing a mindful yoga practice.  As individuals develop the ability to self-monitor their practice, attendance in regular, studio-based classes is attainable.  The following link provides more information about trauma sensitive yoga: http://www.traumacenter.org/clients/MagInside.Su09.p12-13.pdf  Linda has attended Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Training with Nicole Emily Marcia MA, ERYT 500 in Vancouver, BC in November 2013. 

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is an ancient form of yogic meditation, sometimes known as 'yogic sleep'.  It can be practiced by anyone regardless of health status and is effective in helping manage anxiety, depression and stress.  Because Yoga Nidra is not a physical practice it is an effective tool for anyone, including individuals who are acutely ill, recovering from surgery, engaged in chemotherapy or under other forms medical care.

Individual Service Delivery

With all of the services, sessions begin on a one-to-one basis.  Before beginning, Linda will discuss with you your goals, limitations and history to ensure services are tailored to your needs.  The number of individual sessions will vary.  Individual sessions may progress to small groups when appropriate.  

Therapeutic Yoga

Therapeutic Yoga is a physical hatha yoga practice tailored to your limitations. Your limitations are assessed and accommodated. As your health status gradually improves your practice is modified with the goal of attending yoga classes in yoga studios. Linda's training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, kineisiology and mental health - and her experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, chronic pain, addictions and trauma - allows her to safely offer modifications to any health restriction.  Sessions are one to one, or in very small groups, until such time that you are knowledgable in how to safely self-monitor your practice. 

Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation and Mindfulness techniques are potent self-help practices. People who practice regularly and diligently experience benefits such as increased concentration, clarity, happiness and equanimity. Linda's experience in these techniques and with working with individuals who have experienced trauma, addiction, chronic pain and other health challenges allow her to safely teach others in the use of these techniques.
